Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Announces Spring 2025 Dean's List

May 21, 2025

The Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (Âé¶¹Ö±²¥) has released its dean’s list for the 2025 spring session. Students who have earned 12 or more credits at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ are eligible to be considered for the dean’s list. At the end of the fall, spring, and summer sessions, full- and part-time time students who have completed at least six credits during the semester and have earned a term grade point average of 3.5 or better will be included in the dean’s list. Maryland Transfer Intensive Launches to Strengthen Community College Pathways and Boost Statewide Bachelor’s Degree Attainment

In April, the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program (Aspen) and the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) announced the launch of the Maryland Transfer Intensive — a statewide collaboration designed to significantly improve community college transfer outcomes. Over the next seven years, 25 public and state-aided institutions, including Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (Âé¶¹Ö±²¥), will coordinate efforts to boost attainment for those seeking bachelor’s degrees, expand equitable opportunities for Marylanders, and build on Maryland’s ranking as the second most educated state in the country.

The Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (Âé¶¹Ö±²¥) celebrated its newest class of nursing candidates on May 8 in a pinning ceremony at the La Plata Campus, sending them out into the workforce or onto the next phase of their medical education.

Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (Âé¶¹Ö±²¥) students pursuing careers in health care were celebrated May 8 at the La Plata Campus during the college’s Health Career Readiness Recognition ceremony. Eighty students were recognized for completing programs this year in: Veterinary assistant; certified medical administrative assistant; health information system; certified nutrition coach; certified personal training; Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) and Geriatric Nursing Assistant (GNA); dental assistant; phlebotomy technician; certified clinical medical assistant; and medical laboratory technology.

Smithsonian Exhibition on Innovation Arrives at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥

Maryland Humanities is thrilled to kick off the Maryland tour of Spark! Places of Innovation at the Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Velocity Center on May 17. The exhibition highlights innovation in rural communities. Both the Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Velocity Center and Life Journeys Writers Guild serve as the host partners for the tour’s first stop and collaborate with local organizations to create public programming around the Smithsonian exhibition’s themes and ideas from a regional standpoint.

Women from across the region gathered their talents and strengths together Saturday, March 22, at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥’s (Âé¶¹Ö±²¥’s) first WomenLead conference, that was inspired by a Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ communication student, developed in partnership with students, and saw students serving on panels. Approximately 175 people attended the conference entitled ‘Purpose-Driven Vision: Move from Ideation to Action’ that set out to empower and energize women entrepreneurs and nonprofit leaders during Women’s History Month.

The Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (Âé¶¹Ö±²¥) Foundation renamed the Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Fine Arts Center at the La Plata Campus to the Hank Willoughby Foundation Center for the Arts Feb. 7, 2025, to honor the significant contributions that the Hank Willoughby Foundation has made to improve student progress and completion.

Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (Âé¶¹Ö±²¥) students who have chosen to pursue careers in health care were lauded and celebrated Jan. 16 during the college’s Health Career Readiness Recognition in La Plata. Ninety-six students were recognized for completing programs to become certified nursing assistants, geriatric nursing assistants, dental assistants, phlebotomy technicians, certified clinical medical assistants, paramedics, certified nutrition coaches, and certified personal trainers.

The Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ (Âé¶¹Ö±²¥) will close for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 and will resume normal operating hours Jan. 21 when the college welcomes back its Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Hawks to the first day of the Spring semester. During Martin Luther King Jr. Day, access to online services, including registration for credit and non-credit classes, remains available at www.csmd.edu.
